Wooden statue of Saint Florian, patron of firefighters and protector against fire and natural disasters. Hand-carved in Val Gardena.
Saint Florian was born in the 3rd century near Vienna and served as a Roman officer. A devout Christian, he defended fellow believers during the persecutions under Emperor Diocletian. He was martyred in 304 AD by being thrown into the River Enns with a millstone tied around his neck.
Legend says his body was protected by an eagle and later buried by a pious woman. A monastery was later built in his honor: the famous St. Florian Monastery in Upper Austria. He is venerated as the patron of firefighters and is invoked against fires, droughts, storms and floods.
Our statues are hand-carved in maple or linden wood in Val Gardena, in the heart of the Dolomites, combining tradition and devotion.
