St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe

St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe was born in Poland in 1894 and entered the Order of Friars Minor Conventual at a young age. From childhood he showed a deep devotion to the Virgin Mary, who became the center of his spirituality and apostolic mission.

During his priestly ministry he dedicated himself to evangelization, spreading the Christian faith and promoting Marian devotion. He founded the Militia of the Immaculata, a movement created to spread the Gospel through prayer, witness and communication.

An untiring missionary, he carried out his apostolate in various parts of the world, helping to strengthen the Catholic faith and encouraging devotion to the Immaculate Virgin. His life was always marked by profound love for God and for others.

During the Second World War he was arrested and deported to Auschwitz. There he performed the act that made him known throughout the world: he voluntarily offered to take the place of a husband and father who had been condemned to death. This heroic act of charity led to his martyrdom on August 14, 1941.

His witness remains a powerful example of hope, generosity and faith. Canonized by St. John Paul II, he is remembered as the Martyr of Charity, demonstrating that love can triumph over hatred and violence.

This sculpture is crafted from maple or lime wood by artisans of the Val Gardena - Dolomites, renowned for their centuries-old tradition of sacred woodcarving. It beautifully represents one of the most beloved saints of the modern Church.
