Saint Raphael the Archangel, divine healer and protector, represented in fine wood from Val Gardena.
Saint Raphael is one of the seven angels who stand before the glory of the Lord, as described in the Book of Tobit. His name means "God heals", highlighting his role as a guardian, healer, and protector of humanity.
In the Book of Tobit, Raphael appears disguised as the pilgrim Azariah. He accompanies the young Tobiah on a perilous journey, offering divine protection, advising him on love and marriage, and even teaching him how to cure his father's blindness.
Raphael is known as the closest angel to mankind, and a symbol of healing, travel and spiritual support. In Christian tradition, he is the patron of travelers, pilgrims and pharmacists.
Our wooden statues of Saint Raphael are hand-carved in Val Gardena, Italy, and typically show him in a pilgrim’s attire, with a staff, fish and traveling gear, often accompanied by Tobiah.
