The Resurrection of Christ depicts Jesus of Nazareth rising after the crucifixion. This miraculous event is celebrated on Easter Sunday, the most important feast in Christianity. It is the cornerstone of the faith and proclaims the New Testament. Without it, there would be no salvation.
According to the Gospel of John, Jesus was buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea. The chief priests and Pharisees asked Pilate to guard the tomb. Despite their efforts, Jesus rose on the third day.
Mary Magdalene found the empty tomb and informed the disciples. Peter and another saw the linen cloths. Mary saw two angels and then Jesus, who asked her to tell the others. That evening, Jesus appeared saying “Peace be with you” and gave them the Holy Spirit.
Jesus later ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God. According to the Gregorian calendar, Easter falls between March 22 and April 25, on the Sunday after the first spring full moon.
