The statue of Saint John Paul II represents Karol Józef Wojtyła, born in Wadowice, Poland, in 1920 and elected Pope in 1978. His long pontificate, which continued until his death in 2005, left a profound mark on the contemporary history of the Catholic Church.

John Paul II was particularly close to young people, families and the sick. His numerous apostolic journeys took him throughout the world, while the establishment of World Youth Day created an important new encounter between the Church and younger generations.

The sculpture portrays the Holy Pontiff with careful attention to his facial expression and characteristic papal garments. His image immediately recalls one of the most recognizable religious figures of modern times and makes this statue suitable for personal devotion as well as for churches, chapels, religious institutions and prayer spaces.
