Statue of the Queen of Heaven, elegant representation of the Blessed Virgin Mary crowned as Queen of Heaven and Earth. Symbol of heavenly glory, Marian devotion, protection and Christian faith.
The Queen of Heaven, also known as the Blessed Virgin Mary Queen, is one of the most solemn and beloved representations of the Virgin Mary in the tradition of the Catholic Church. This Marian image celebrates Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth, crowned in divine glory.
The feast dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary Queen was celebrated on different dates by various religious orders and dioceses during the nineteenth century. Only in 1954, following the liturgical reform desired by Pope Pius XII, was the celebration officially fixed on August 22 for the entire Catholic Church.
The central theme of this representation is the coronation of the Virgin Mary, symbol of her spiritual fulfillment and her glorious Assumption into Heaven. Already during the Middle Ages, the image of the crowned Madonna represented the victory of purity, faith and complete union with God.
In the Gospel of Luke, Mary is exalted for her humility and her total acceptance of God’s will. Through her “yes” to God, the Virgin Mary became the perfect example of obedience, faith and spiritual love.
According to Catholic tradition, God elevated Mary above all humanity, entrusting her with a special role in the history of salvation. Regarding this, Pope Benedict XVI declared: “God raised her above all men and Jesus Christ crowned her Queen of Heaven and Earth.”
Devotion to the Queen of Heaven expresses the faithful’s trust in Mary’s maternal protection and in her intercession before God. For this reason, the crowned Virgin is often invoked as a spiritual guide, protector of families and comforter of the faithful.
In sacred art, the Queen of Heaven is frequently depicted holding the Child Jesus in her arms and a scepter in her hand, symbol of her heavenly royalty. On her head she wears a splendid crown, sign of her dignity as Queen of Paradise.
In some representations, the Child Jesus holds a globe, symbol of His lordship over the world as Redeemer, Protector and King of the Universe.
The representation of the Queen of Heaven still conveys today a message of hope, protection, divine glory and Christian faith.
