Holy Spirit

The Third Person of the Trinity and spiritual guide of Christians

The Holy Spirit (Latin: Spiritus Sanctus) is the Third Person of the Holy Trinity, together with God the Father and the Son forming the Triune God. This belief was established during the First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD under Emperor Constantine. The creed states that the Holy Spirit is a divine person, not an impersonal force.

The Holy Spirit’s role is to spread the message of Jesus and guide Christians in their faith. Those who trust in Jesus are filled with the Holy Spirit and receive love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, and self-control. He leads people toward God and helps them understand the consequences of a life without Him.

The Bible mentions the Holy Spirit many times: in the Immaculate Conception of Mary, at Jesus' baptism, during the Last Supper, and in many other passages.

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit are: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. These are received during the Sacrament of Confirmation, which strengthens the faith initiated at Baptism.

On the fiftieth day after Easter, Christians celebrate Pentecost, commemorating the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles – considered the birth of the Church.
