Fire-Tending Shepherd for the Nativity Scene

The Fire-Tending Shepherd is a characteristic wooden figure from the Bergland Nativity, depicted tending and keeping the campfire burning. This simple and natural scene enriches the Nativity with a charming moment from the shepherds' everyday life.

Together with the Reclining Shepherd and the Campfire, the Fire-Tending Shepherd forms the Camp Scene group. The three elements can be arranged together to recreate an evocative nighttime scene with the shepherds gathered around the fire.

The shepherd's action of tending the fire brings movement to the composition and contrasts beautifully with the relaxed pose of the Reclining Shepherd. The Campfire becomes the focal point of the scene, creating a small narrative episode that adds atmosphere and life to the Nativity.

The Camp Scene recalls the night in Bethlehem, when the shepherds were watching over their flocks before receiving the announcement of the birth of Jesus. The Fire-Tending Shepherd therefore helps portray the shepherds' everyday life before the great event of the Nativity.

The figure can also be displayed individually or combined with sheep and other shepherds. For the complete scene, it can be paired with the Reclining Shepherd and Campfire to form the characteristic Bergland Camp Scene group.

All figures within the same Bergland Nativity series are proportioned to one another, allowing the scene to be expanded over time while maintaining harmonious proportions and the traditional woodcarving character of Val Gardena - Dolomites.
