Our Lady of the Pillar

Our Lady of the Pillar is among the oldest and most important Marian devotions in Christian tradition. According to tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared to Saint James the Greater while he was preaching the Gospel in Spain.

The apparition is said to have taken place while Mary was still living in Jerusalem. She appeared standing upon a pillar of jasper, encouraging the apostle to continue his missionary work.

From this event comes the title "Our Lady of the Pillar". Over the centuries, the site became home to the famous Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar in Zaragoza, one of the world's most important Marian shrines.

The statue portrays the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus, emphasizing her role as Mother of God and mother of the Church. The pillar symbolizes strength, faith and divine protection.

This devotion remains especially important in Spain and throughout Latin America, where Our Lady of the Pillar is honored as a symbol of evangelization and hope.

The statue is crafted from maple or lime wood by artisans of the Val Gardena - Dolomites.
