Resting Mother Goat with Two Kids – Wooden Bergland Nativity Figures

The Resting Mother Goat with Two Kids is a delightful wooden composition from the Bergland Nativity, depicting a peaceful moment in the life of grazing animals. The mother goat is shown lying down and resting, with her two young kids close beside her.

The group consists of three animals: a reclining adult goat, a crouching kid and a lying kid. The different positions of the young goats give the scene a natural and lifelike appearance, creating a harmonious composition that highlights the protective bond between a mother and her offspring.

The mother goat conveys a feeling of calm and security, while her two kids bring a sense of gentleness and youthful innocence. Together, they portray a charming episode of rural life, inspired by the simplicity of nature and the instinctive affection between animals.

Within a Nativity landscape, goats are particularly suitable for accompanying shepherd figures and enriching pastoral scenes. A mother goat resting with her young helps recreate the atmosphere of everyday pastoral life in Bethlehem, adding variety, warmth and realism to the Christmas display.

The Resting Mother Goat with Two Kids can be placed near a stable, beside a pathway, in a meadow or alongside other figures such as sheep, lambs and shepherds. The compact arrangement of the animals also makes the group suitable for smaller areas within a Nativity scene.

This composition combines harmoniously with other figures from the same Bergland Nativity series. Its wooden craftsmanship and softly shaded patinated finish enhance the animals' forms and reflect the traditional woodcarving heritage of Val Gardena - Dolomites, making it a charming addition to a Christmas Nativity display.
